La Comparaison en anglais ( 1)

A la demande d'un de mes éléves à qui je donne quelques cours particuliers d'anglais, j'ai effectué cette petite fiche pour aborder la comparaison.

La comparaison  1 :

En anglais pour faire une comparaison on utilise « er » à la fin de l’adjectif  ou « more » lorsque l’on ne peut pas ajouter « er » à la fin de l’adjectif  parfois suivi de than.

Voici un exemple concret :

This book is heavier than the magasine

The magasine is lighter than the book.

The book is heavier !

The magasine is lighter !

A A) Nous utilisons –ER pour les comparative pour les adjectifs ou les adverbes courts :

Cheap-->  cheaper

Thin --> thinner

Short --> shorter

-       this pant is too short : i want a longer one

-       This work is too hard : i need an easier one.

B) Nous utilisons de préférence –ER pour les adjecifs à 2 syllabes ,  et en particulier pour ceux qui se terminent en –Y

Lucky --> luckier

Funny --> funnier

Pretty -->  prettier

Clever --> cleverer

-       This doll is prettier than the other one

-       The clown  is funnier than the juggler

B)  C)  Nous utilisons « MORE » ( et pas – ER) pour les adjectifs de plus de 2 syllables et les très longs adjectifs :

Comfortable -->  more comfortable

Expensive --> more expensive

Interesting -->  more interesting

-       the car is more expensive than the bike

-       it is more expensive! 

-       The sofa is more comfortable than the chair

-       It is more comfortable!

-        

D) Nous utilisons aussi «  MORE » pour les adverbes qui se terminent en – LY

Seriously --> more seriously

Carefully -->  more carefully

-       my sister drives more carefully than your brother

-       my cat sleeps more quietly than your dog

Exception : l’adjectif GOOD fera BETTER et l’adjectif BAD fera WORSE

 Ce qu’il faut retenir :Ajectifs comparatifs

Une syllabe	2 syllabes finissant par «  Y » , changer le «  Y » en « I »	2 syllabes ou plus
Forme : +er than Longer than Smaller than Nicer than Stronger than	Forme : + ier than Easier than Happier than Prettier than Funnier than	Forme : More…. Than More interesting than More dangerous than More difficult than More intelligent than
